LEONARD COHEN'S NEW HEATHER ALBUM
« on: November 24, 2004, 02:05:14 am »
HAVE PEOPLE HEARD LEONARD COHEN'S NEW ALBUM ABOUT HEATHER?

IN MOST OF IT, HE IS SPEAKING RATHER THAN SINGING.  HE HAS SOME BEATIFUL ACCOMPANYING FEMALE VOICES.

IT TOOK A LITTLE TIME TO GROW UPON ME, BUT "YOU GO LENNY!"  HE IS STILL ROCKING AT 70 YEARS OLD

I SAW HIM IN CHICAGO A NUMBER OF YEARS AGO ON HIS "FUTURE" TOUR (INCREDIBLE ALBUM) AND I GOT TO THE CONCERT VENUE (PARK WEST) REAL EARLY BECAUSE IT WAS NOT RESERVED SEATING AND RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME, HE WALKED OUT OF THE THEATER WITH REBECCA DeMORNAY (AMERICAN ACTRESS GIRLFRIEND AT THE TIME...MUCH YOUNGER).  I SAID "HI" TO THEM AND HE WAS VERY SUAVE AND COOL WITH A NICE "THANK YOU FOR COMING OUT FOR THE CONCERT AND YOUR KIND WORDS."  THERE IS THIS MESMERIZING EFFECT HE HAS ON PEOPLE.  THERE WAS A GROUP OF WOMEN I HUNG OUT WITH AT THE FRONT THAT HAD SEEN EVERY CONCERT ON HIS TOUR.  HE HAS A DEVOTED FOLLOWING.

AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS HEARD LEONARD COHEN'S NEW "DEAR HEATHER" ALBUM?  NO ONE REPLIED AND I KNOW SOME OF YOU LIKE HIM.  MAYBE IT IS NOT RELEASED IN OTHER AREAS OF THE WORLD YET.

NOT FEELING THE LOVE  :'(

Patryk, don't cry...
Personally, I prefer Leonard's music before 10 New Songs. Though I've only heard one song off the latest album it doesn't have that much appeal to me anymore. I must tell you I'm a Leonard maniac when it comes to his previous stuff. What I dislike about his music now is toy keyboard sound mixed with toy keyboard rhythm and his voice isn't a shiver down your spine anymore. But it's not really the beat that's spoiled it all. I mean, look at the Death of a Ladies' Man, it's wonderful (I believe it's his very first album with the drums and keyboards and stuff).

OK, now you can all throw tomatoes at me.  (Hey! Leave the rotten ones alone!)

Thanks for the feedback.  I had to get into a totally different mindset to fathom this Lenny album.  It took me about 5 listens.  I agree with you about the strength of his previous work.  When I saw him on THE FUTURE tour, he was truly amazing.  I also agree with TT that it took artists like Jen Warnes and Judy Collins to make me appreciate the strength of this writing.  Judy Collins just released an album entirely of his songs as well!  P   8) 8)

Wouldn't it be interesting to see Tanita record a Cohen album, but not necessarily with the same song choice as Judy Collins or Jennifer Warnes?
I'd particularly like to hear Tanita cover:

Love Calls You By Your Name
Night Comes On
Seems So Long Ago, Nancy
Waiting For The Miracle
I Tried To Leave You  (the intonation of this song is reminiscent of I Like This)
The Law
You Know Who I Am

 ;D ;D ;D :) :)

What a fantastic idea D D!!  Tanita would do very well doing an album of Cohen songs.

I have also always dreamed of her doing an album of smokey torch songs.  She would do it justice!!

Speaking of smokey torch songs, how about an all acoustic album with brand new songs? The kind you'd need a sip of wine to listen to?

I only have two of his albums (sorry DD): ten new songs and dear heather. Both are great, real dark pieces. "you never liked to get the letters that I sent" Gee... Or->By the rivers dark where I could not see who was waiting there who was hunting me. ;)

I found the new album's layout a but disgusting, what do you think?

What did Andras say? Anyway, i do prefer dark music (gothic ;D ), like Cohen - or Tanita.
Do you remember Patryk Tanita's henna tattoo in Stop Listening video? That sun stuff on her red arm? I made it for myself:).
