Looks as if I'm the one to kick off this thread.
Well, what I think is that there are a couple of great live performances Tanita has done over the years.

Take Trondheim 1989 performance - it's one of the best quality shows. The audience went nuts!!
I quite like the 1991 Hammersmith version of World Outside Your Window (a cute, slow version). She also sang it on 1990 Bristol and a few others I can't recall now.

One of the freakiest songs ever to be performed live is Elephant because Tanita is really trying to recreate special effects that are on the studio version of the song. And she's so very clumsy doing that LOL! :) I believe it's on Barbican 1995 concert that you can actually wet your pants listening to these special effects of hers. ;)

OK, I'd better stop now...
Well, who's next?

When Tanita performed Elephant during the tour supporting Lovers in the City I thought she had stopped to blow her nose during that sound effect. She prefaced the song by telling the audience that her mother often called her an elephant when she was a child due to the reckless manner in which she raced around the house. It was the only silly moment in an otherwise somber performance, in particular her haunting, stripped-down version of Feeding the Witches. As I remember, she favored songs from Eleven Kinds of Loneliness on that tour, including a "pretty" version of Heal You (that is, a version that isn't as mournful as the album version). She tends to neglect songs from The Sweet Keeper and Everybody's Angel when she performs, which is a shame because versions of Little Sister Leaving Town, Deliver Me and I Love The Heaven's Solo (she leans toward the more soulful single version of the song in concert) were highlights of earlier tours.

Dee Dee My Love  8)

I think her '95 Milano concert rocked!

One of my favorite concert versions her songs is LOVERS IN THE CITY--The drum machine is very over the top--She pulls it off splendidly with her voice.

As a matter of fact the song LOVERS IN THE CITY is one of my very favorites, perhaps my favorite.  It brought me through a very difficult break-up with a lover--Thank you TT for doing that...

Hi

Felt that I had to post someting on this topic as Dave and myself have seen TT live so many times (40+ times)! Though every single concert had something special (meeting other fans, seeing a new town, meeting TT and/or the band etc) here are the ones we enjoyed most for various reasons:

Dave:

Manchester, Opera House, December 1988: First TT gig
Utrecht, 1991: Great Dutch audience!
Paris, 1991: great gig and 1995: small venue, crowd in from of the stage and great vibe!!
Esch, 1995: Sat at the first row and enjoyed the weird sportshall surroundings!!
Athens, 1995: Great location!!!!!!!!

Nathalie:
Brussels, January 1989: first gig and in my home country - special!
London: February 1990: frist backstage meeting with TT - wow!!
Utrecht, Enschede & Groningen, 1991: meeting other fans and the Dutch crowds are always great!!!
Utecht: 1995: same as above and TT creeping up from behind us whilst walking near the 'Vredenburg' in Utrecht!
Paris 1991 & 1995: Always a special place to visit and the Parisian audience loves TT!
Brussels 1995: Glad to see TT in Belgium again after the bad press from the Torhout/Werchter Festivals. Lovely photos backstage too!
Athens 1995: Well what can I say.. personally my favourite TT trip and gig. The visit to Athens and the concert seeting on top of the mountain, meeting the band for rehearsal etc... Trully magic!!!
Sopot 1998: Great trip and thanks to Margi and all other Polish fans we met for making it a wonderful experience.
London 1998: Mean Fiddler, back to her roots, small but intimate & great gig!!!
2005?!?!................best will be the next one?!?!?!?!?!?!

Cheers

Nathalie & Dave

The only time I was fortunate enough to catch Tanita in concert was exactly 10 years ago in Zurich during her 1995 Lovers tour.  My anticipation was raging at finally getting to see her live after enjoying her music and her style for all these years.  To up the torture, I intentionally put off listening to the CD so that I would hear all the new songs for the first time live.  (Crazy, huh?)  The Volkshaus is a small venue, and I was near the front, so great view of the stage and fantastic sound.  The rather simple musical arrangements and that voice...  well, I was transported during the entire concert.  I instantly connected with the material on Lovers, and she even won me over for the songs on Eleven Kinds of Loneliness, an album which until that time I had found rather inaccessible.  I didn't get to meet Tanita backstage or anything, but highlights for me were "Women who cheat on the world" which gave me huge goosebumps, and "I'm into something good" and "You sexy thing" during the encores which were just soooo much fun.  Yes, she did make funny noises for "Elephant", and her yodelling was pretty cool.

When I finally got around to listening to the Lovers CD, I was actually disappointed at first, since I recalled fondly the simpler arrangements from the concert.  Well, it took me some time to warm up to the Lovers CD, but I grew to love it greatly, particularly with earphones.  I have been on a quest to get a good recording from her 1995 tour, so that I can savor those songs as I had first heard them.  York is a good quality recording, but it's not complete, and Milano is complete, but it's not a good recording.  I hope to get Brussels from Diana in a trade shortly, and I hope it can complete the mission.  =)

I'd say this song should have had more spotlight as it's one of the most intricate songs on the album. If I recall correctly, Tanita's initial choice for the title of LITC was WWCOTW. It was then given up for the sake of LITC, which, truth be told, fits the songs more accurately. I remember when I first heard "Women Who Cheat on the World" I thought to myself: this must be a new territory Tanita is venturing into. I kinda hoped for more of the same/similar, but it turned out otherwise. Not bad, though!  ;)

Me neither, I've never had the chance to see Tanita play live. She's done concerts in Finland, but I'm a too new fan. I hadn't heard of Tanita before 1999 and all the gig's have been before that. I'd really love to see her some day though, I've heard her live songs (thanks to you guys and the ftp server) and I know she's good. Would be the greatest thing ever to get to hear Tanita play live.

Patryk - tho only one Tanita live I saw was in Sopot in 1998. As I said earlier I did't enjoy her performace very much. So I'm looking forward "Sentimental" tournee :)
Cheers
