I haven't heard the album, and don't know how to access the songs Natty has downloaded, but I have heard the short clips from the Swedish website and Naive, as well as watched the live performances of Don't let the Cold and Love is Just a Word.

I have to say, this appears to be Tanita's best work as an artist to date, especially in terms of how the record has been put together.  i think there's a real edge to this music, because of it's live feel.  okay, so there's a dark/melanacholic aspect to the songs I've heard and, yes, the songs are about love and relationships, but haven't many of the best albums ever made been in this style as well?

I think if it gets airtime in the right places, and people see her with an open mind (after all, it is 17 years since Good Tradition and Twist in my Sobriety) there's the prospect here of artistic recognition.

The Cappuccino Songs represented the biggest departure and was produced with an ear to commercial music.   But the album to me, did not make a particularly strong emotional connection, even if the voice and accompanying music were as intriguing as usual.

I'm surprised by sentimental.  It sounds very melodic, which is a good sign to me, because usually it takes me ages to remember the melody of Tanita's song after just one or two listens the first time around.

Hi to all those old LIST members.....Natty & Dave, Patryk.....

I have neard now heard all the sentimental songs thanks to the FTP.  Great idea!!!!  Now I'll look through my collection to see if there's anything I have which has been missed.  Doesn't look like it though  ;)

I like all the tracks so far.  There are a few which instantly please - Play Me Again, for instance.  Has the darkness/eroticism of Amore Si, but without the kitsch feel.  I also like "My Love".  The instrumentation and layers are perfect.  Delicate.  Real warmth.  "Love is just a word" makes my hairs stand on end.  Pure emotion.   I love that groove on "Don;t let the cold".  How cool and inspired are those hammond-organ like backing vocals???  Heart in Winter has yet to make the impression that it probably will.  There's always a couple of growers on her albums.

But this is a lovely, poignant album of ballads with interesting instrumentation, daring vocals...I hope it changes the critics minds, because isn;t this what they've wanted from Tanita.....to use her voice at the front, and to eliminate the over-prouduction and slickness?

GOOD EVENING EVERYONE:

IT IS 80 DEGREES F IN CHICAGO AND A LOVELY EVENING.

NOW THAT I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE LISTENS OF SENTIMENTAL, I WANT TO COMMENT ON HOW COHESIVE THIS ALBUM IS IN TELLING A STORY.  I WILL START TO MAKE COMMENTARY ON THE SONGS AND HOW EACH FITS IN WITH THE ENTIRE SEQUENCE OF THE ALBUM BY TELLING A STORY.  EACH SONG MOST DEFINITELY HAS A RELATIONSHIP TO THE WHOLE.  IT IS OBVIOUS THAT MUCH TIME WAS SPENT ON SEQUENCING OF THIS MUSICAL WORK.  OF ALL OF TANITA'S ALBUMS, I AM FULLY CONVINCED THIS IS THE MOST COHESIVE IN TAKING YOU ON A JOURNEY WITH INDIVIDUAL STORIES (SONGS) THAT ARE EMBEDDED WITHIN A THEME.  IT IS THE STORY OF A BREAKUP AND RENEWAL.

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR READING AND REFLECTING!  PATRYK

HERE GOES EVERYONE--THIS IS MY KICKSTART:

SOMETHING NEW
What an appropriate title for this song.  It is pivotal in starting the album.  This song is foreshadowing the rest of the songs to come--it is a prologue.  It is a song after the fact, in retrospect. Tanita is making a vow in the song that the "rain is not coming down again", even though it will crop up at times as the "old song."  She also is confirming she has high expectations of a relationship:  she "wants so much," and it is "never enough."  After the rough times (rain), there is a new day--"something new," "a place to lose herself".  The sun is on her face--it is a new start.  Her "body is moving" and her "world is changing."  She is hopeful there is "so much to give and live!"  It feels like a revelation.

After hearing this song, the listener anticipates hearing the rest of the story that got her to this point.  The hard times (rain) will be depicted...be prepared!

What a stunner in providing an opening framework!   PATRYK

something new - a gorgeous opening song.  tanita at her best

"those kisses falling"....."fearing who they love, fearing how they love"

the lyrics here are potent yet delicate.  simple, yet in no way commonplace.  this is a terrific song.  "I feel my body moving, I feel the sun on my face"......it's just incredible how she weaves this imagery without having to be too direct.  i recall songs like "Consider the Rain", where the metaphors were a little too strong.  This time she's got the balance perfectly right.

this album is really affecting me.  i'm listening at every opportunity.  i tend to play the more uplifting songs in the morning, like Every day is New and Don't Shake me up.  By night, I like the darker ones, like Play Me Again and Got to Give You Up.  The album is just soooooooooooooo good!

About My Love:
Don't you think the melody is very similar to Besame Mucho? Try to hum it while listening to My Love :)
Or at least you can start humming My Love and continue in Besame Mucho.
