I haven't heard the album, and don't know how to access the songs Natty has downloaded, but I have heard the short clips from the Swedish website and Naive, as well as watched the live performances of Don't let the Cold and Love is Just a Word.
I have to say, this appears to be Tanita's best work as an artist to date, especially in terms of how the record has been put together. i think there's a real edge to this music, because of it's live feel. okay, so there's a dark/melanacholic aspect to the songs I've heard and, yes, the songs are about love and relationships, but haven't many of the best albums ever made been in this style as well?
I think if it gets airtime in the right places, and people see her with an open mind (after all, it is 17 years since Good Tradition and Twist in my Sobriety) there's the prospect here of artistic recognition.
The Cappuccino Songs represented the biggest departure and was produced with an ear to commercial music. But the album to me, did not make a particularly strong emotional connection, even if the voice and accompanying music were as intriguing as usual.
I'm surprised by sentimental. It sounds very melodic, which is a good sign to me, because usually it takes me ages to remember the melody of Tanita's song after just one or two listens the first time around.
